WYD Seoul 2027 Volunteers: International Roles, Applications and Key Dates

WYD Seoul 2027 Volunteers: International Roles, Applications and Key Dates

Young people planning to serve at World Youth Day Seoul 2027 can now compare three official volunteering routes: long-term preparation roles, short-term event support and parish-based hospitality. The Local Organizing Committee has outlined different responsibilities, timetables and application procedures, making early preparation particularly important for applicants from outside South Korea.

Three ways to volunteer

Long-term volunteers work with the Local Organizing Committee for at least three months. Roles may involve regular departmental work or team support outside office hours. The official FAQ states that international long-term applications are open and directs candidates to the organizer’s announcement. Selected international volunteers are offered accommodation and partial support with meals and local transport.

Short-term volunteers are expected in Seoul from late July to August 9, 2027, for training and duties associated with the main August 3–8 celebrations. Their registration system is expected to open in late October 2026. Parish volunteers, recruited locally, will assist with welcoming pilgrims, accommodation and pastoral activities.

Documents and selection

Applicants should prepare an application form and recommendation letter, with identification and visa documents where applicable. International long-term volunteers may need a recommendation from their bishops’ conference for visa procedures. Selection and training requirements vary by role.

The organizers caution that service assignments may prevent volunteers from attending every event as participants. Prospective candidates should therefore decide whether their priority is to serve or experience the full pilgrim programme, and monitor the official website for changes.
