Catholic Migration Commission Prepares 75th Anniversary Council

The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) is preparing a meeting of its Council in Rome on 10–12 November 2026, marking 75 years of its service to refugees, migrants and other displaced people.

A new president and a four-year strategy

Vatican News reported on 29 October that representatives of episcopal conferences and local Churches from around the world will gather to examine global migration challenges, elect a new ICMC president and approve the organisation’s strategy for the following four years.

The programme is expected to include Cardinal Fabio Baggio, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, and Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Organisations including Caritas Internationalis, Jesuit Refugee Service and the UN Refugee Agency are also expected to participate.

A global mission of accompaniment

Founded in 1951, the ICMC supports people uprooted by conflict, persecution and hardship, regardless of their religious or national background. Its anniversary brings renewed attention to how Catholic institutions can coordinate humanitarian support and uphold the dignity of migrants.

The Rome gathering remains scheduled for November; its leadership decisions and strategy have not yet been announced.
