Lisbon's Paths of Faith Exhibition Connects Art and Memory

A new exhibition route in Lisbon is inviting visitors to explore faith, love and death through art from different periods and cultural traditions. Paths of Faith runs from October 22 to 31, 2026, across the Museum of São Roque and Casa Ásia – Francisco Capelo Collection, according to organizer Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.

Twenty-eight works across two venues

The exhibition combines 28 works from the collections of the two institutions, setting Christian and Asian artistic traditions in dialogue. Its central themes include the relationship between the sacred and the everyday, bodily experience and transcendence.

Remembering those who died alone

A related temporary exhibition, Oblivion, by Mafalda Oliveira Martins, pays tribute to 233 people who died alone in Lisbon in 2021 and whose bodies were not claimed by relatives or friends. Inspired by a ceremony at São Roque Church, the work uses imagined faces and simple materials to reflect on dignity, isolation and remembrance.

How to visit

Scheduled activities include guided tours on October 24 and 31, as well as the Step by Step / Piece by Piece programme. The organizer says exhibition access follows the museums’ admission arrangements, while guided-tour participation is free with advance booking. Regular scheduled tours are in Portuguese; English group tours may be requested in advance, subject to availability.

Visitors should consult the official programme for times, capacity and booking information before travelling.
