A free Catholic culture and vocation fair in central Seoul offered visitors an early glimpse of the encounter between faith, creativity and young people that organisers hope to encourage at World Youth Day (WYD) 2027.

Held over the weekend of 8–9 August 2026 near Deoksu Palace and the Seoul City Hall area, the event brought religious orders, apostolic groups and young visitors into a public setting with interactive activities and opportunities for conversation.

Faith beyond church walls

According to a report published by The Korea Times on 9 August, activities included making rosaries, building crosses and meeting representatives of Catholic communities. The fair was organised by the local organising committee of WYD Seoul 2027, with support from South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The format created a public space where people could explore Catholic vocations, religious life and traditions without needing to attend a formal worship service. As an early cultural preview, it also showed how the preparations for WYD can engage the wider city before international pilgrims arrive.

A continuing invitation ahead of 2027

Although the fair itself has already taken place, its central question remains relevant: how can young people encounter faith through conversation, art and practical experience? The August gathering offers one example for parishes and youth groups preparing cultural activities on the road to Seoul.

This is a retrospective report, not an announcement of a forthcoming edition of the fair. Event details are attributed to the contemporary reporting of The Korea Times; a separate independent account was not verified for every detail.
