Young Catholics in Malta have taken part in a diocesan listening and discernment gathering, offering their perspectives on community, participation and the Church’s mission.
Young people speak and Church leaders listen
According to the Archdiocese of Malta, 75 young people and youth ministry leaders from parishes and ecclesial movements joined the first Diocesan Assembly for Youth, organised by the Malta Catholic Youth Network ahead of a broader diocesan assembly in November.
The two-hour gathering combined prayer, presentations and discussions focused on the pastoral plan’s themes of communion, participation and mission. Archbishop Charles Scicluna and Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi attended and listened to the contributions.
Belonging and inclusion
Participants also presented a letter from the Plexus Seminar, held earlier in October, which explored neurodivergence and the place of neurodivergent people in Catholic communities. Church leaders encouraged initiatives that help people grow in safe and welcoming environments.
The assembly ended with a moment of prayer led by Archbishop Scicluna. The meeting offers an example of how local Churches can involve younger generations in decisions about pastoral priorities.
