Asian Catholic Leaders Urge Support for Young Digital Missionaries

Young Catholics using social media to communicate their faith need stronger support, mentoring and a clearer place in the Church’s pastoral structures, participants at a Catholic communications assembly in Macau have argued.

Digital mission takes centre stage

The Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences Office of Social Communication gathered in Macau from 27 to 31 October to examine evangelization in an age of artificial intelligence. The event brought together bishops, scholars and communication professionals.

On 29 October, Gethsemani Cindy Gorospe of Radio Veritas Asia outlined the results and next steps of the First Asian Catholic Digital Missionaries Assembly. She called for formal recognition, mentoring and integration of young Catholic content creators into pastoral life.

Putting people before platforms

Speakers also encouraged ethical approaches to AI and communication that protect human dignity and foster genuine encounters rather than replacing relationships with automated interaction.

The discussions highlight a growing question for parishes and Catholic organisations: how to help the next generation communicate faith responsibly and creatively online.
