More than 1,600 children joined a World Mission Sunday celebration in Myanmar, bringing together young Catholics for prayer, community and a call to put the Gospel into practice. The gathering took place at Assumption Catholic Church in Twantay Parish, in the Archdiocese of Yangon.
Mission begins where children live
The event was organized by the Yangon Archdiocesan Pontifical Mission Society and its director. Cardinal Charles Bo encouraged the children to see missionary life not as a distant future responsibility, but as something they could begin immediately in their families, schools and parishes.
He spoke of the importance of welcoming classmates who feel excluded, sharing with those in need and offering help in ordinary situations. The message placed kindness and solidarity at the heart of missionary identity.
Solidarity in difficult times
The Cardinal also drew attention to children facing conflict, displacement and hunger in Myanmar and elsewhere. By encouraging young participants to remember their peers in vulnerable situations, the celebration connected personal faith with compassion for wider society.
The event offers a concrete example of how Catholic mission is being shared with a new generation, even amid serious challenges affecting communities in the country.
